This week in Sharpsville

The first week of school is over.  It was nice to have all of the staff and students back doing what we do best - learning and growing.  Student information meetings were held to review the 2016-2017 Student Handbook (Click here to access the handbook).  It is important to review school expectations and our code of conduct in order to make sure each day flows as it should and to make sure learning is at the center of all we do.

The weather this week made it difficult at times to maintain that focus; our building was HOT!  This week should bring us a little relief.

Here are some highlights:
  • The first round of voting for homecoming queen and king took place with the second round of voting to begin this coming week.
  • The high school has gone from having three lunch periods to two lunch periods.  The first day was a little difficult as expected, but the flow of the line was much better by Thursday and Friday.  We will be adding sandwich and pizza shoots for student self-service within the next week or so.  This should help lines move more quickly.
  • We welcomed several new staff members and courses to our school family and course of studies.  Mrs. Zagger, Mrs, Nguyen and Mr. Welch joined our instructional staff in the science and physical education departments.  Several new courses also began with the new year including:  Forensic Science, Algebra I Block/Lab, University of Pittsburgh Psychology, and our two year course options for Academic Biology.  Please click here to review our entire Sharpsville Area High School Course of Studies.
This Week in Sports
  • Boys and Girls golf teams are working hard to establish themselves in competition.
  • Girls Soccer won Weds against Greenville 5-0.
  • Boys soccer lost in double over time to Wilmington 3-2, and then lost again 1-0 to Conneaut Area.  Do not let the 0-2 record deceive you though...this team is young and very good.
  • Volleyball won Tuesday night against slippery Rock 3-0 and then Weds at Keystone 3-0.
  • Cross Country started their duel meet season on Tuesday.  Girls beat Slippery Rock but the boys lost.  Still nothing with uniforms.
  • Football improved to 3-0 with a win in Mercer on Friday night.  The game was cut short due to a blown transformer just be halftime.  Sharpsville was winning 33-0 at the time.
