SHARPSVILLE STRONG FOR AUTISM AWRENESS!

The month of April is considered Autism Awareness month around the world.  The pyramids and sphinx in Egypt, Eiffel Tower, White House, the World Trade Center, Niagra Falls, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the parliament building in England and many other landmarks are lighted with bright blue lights to mark the importance of spreading awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder.

We are encouraging all staff and students to show your support for those individuals and their families affected with autism by wearing blue this Friday.  Middle school and elementary school staff and students are being encouraged to do the same. The high school will be holding a Light it Up Blue Autism Awareness assembly Friday at 2:00PM in the auditorium. Wear your blue this Friday and show your support for Autism Awareness Month...lets all be Sharpsville Strong for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Sharpsville Area High School and ONE Federal Credit Union 'Spread the Word'

ONE Federal Credit Union, the Sharpsville Area High School Natural Helpers and Briana Hast from the Sharpsville Area High School LEAD Team worked together to end the use of the R-word as a starting point toward creating more accepting attitudes and communities for all people.  Language affects attitudes and attitudes affect actions.  Students had the opportunity to take the 'Spread the Word to End the Word' pledge last Thursday during lunch.  Students taking the pledge signed the Spread the Word to End the Word Banner that will be proudly displayed in our lobby area for all to see, received a Spread the Word to End the Word pledge bracelet and became eligible to win a Spread the Word t-shirt.

The banner and bracelets were graciously provided by our community partner, One Federal Credit Union.  Heather Clancy-Young, CEO of ONE Federal Credit Union (Pictured with students at the pledge table) took time from her day to join our efforts to 'Spread the Word' and encourage students to use kind, people-first language.  Sharpsville Area High School would like to thank Heather Clancy-Young and the entire ONE Federal Credit Union for their support and partnership in our effort to create a kind and more understanding school community built on providing the respect and dignity all of us deserve.
